Talking about Hippocampus’s development

Did you know that the history of Hippocampus goes back more than 15 years? Summit – the creators of Hippocampus – first got involved in education in 2007. Summit handled visitor registration for a major education fair in Utrecht at the time. The scanning of students by educational institutions led to the registration of the first open days and more …

About Summit

Summit, the makers of Hippocampus

Summit Registration & Services BV was founded in Maarssen in 1997. Summit already handled the registration of large, international trade shows and conferences, and still does. Education was added in 2007. It started with the registration of open days. Students could register for open days organised by some educational institutions using Summit’s online registration forms. Once on site, they were scanned. This provided insight into who had attended the open day and what they were looking for.

It soon became clear to us that a Student Journey encompasses more than just an open day. Other types of activity were added to the system. At the same time we developed functionalities to better monitor the recruitment process and follow up on contacts with prospective students. The continuous development of the software, combined with increasing security requirements, made further development on the existing platform increasingly difficult. That is why we decided in 2021 to redevelop the system from scratch. Hippocampus was born!

Today, dozens of educational institutions in Europe enjoy using Hippocampus. Every day, we work hard on our system and support our customers in every way we can. Our team comprises an ambitious group of around 20 enthusiastic software developers, project managers and support staff. As it happens, we still have room for more people at our Utrecht office, so feel free to check out our vacancies. As for our ambitions: we want to support as many educational institutions as possible with our software and services to recruit students and we are convinced that Hippocampus contributes towards making better study choices. We see plenty of opportunities to make Hippocampus even more valuable. We are not lacking in ideas about data analytics and AI integration. The possibilities are endless!

But let’s get back to Hippocampus

If students have made a choice that is right for them, there’s a higher probability that they will complete their studies. This means that a good study choice is crucial. You can help them make this choice, consistently and always at the right time. Because you know where they are, at which stage of their orientation. And how to reach them most effectively. How? By no longer working piecemeal, but using one single system: Hippocampus.

“Hippocampus was developed for and by the educational sector. By working closely together with educational institutions over the past 15 years, we have managed to continuously perfect Hippocampus. I am proud of all the people who have contributed to this.”

Hans Kleinekorte | Founder of Summit and creator of Hippocampus

Hippocampus was developed specifically for (and by) the educational sector. It helps you to organise all your activities and record every contact with prospective students – both online and offline. You can track them closely, reach out to them in time for the next step and, thanks to the data, get a clear insight into their study journey. This way, you increase not only the number of applications but also the quality.

Now, data is not a magic word. On the contrary: the GDPR-proof processed data enables you to quickly make a targeted selection and to get apprised of the impact of your activities. It allows you to continue monitoring throughout the year and to easily obtain an analysis or report from the system at any time. This means that ad hoc adjustments can be made at any time, for example if the number of registrations for certain study programmes is falling behind.

Hippocampus provides structure and oversight, making it possible for you to reach your goals faster. It ensures that all data is stored in one place, which makes you less dependent on others. Moreover, it saves time and offers peace of mind, giving you more time to do other important things.
